ADHD illus

What is ADHD?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that can make it difficult to stay focused or concentrate on one thing for a prolonged period of time. If you have ADHD, you may also be less able to control impulses, or often feel fidgety and restless.

People

Who gets ADHD?

Anyone from any background can develop ADHD. It’s often identified during childhood, but not always – many people don’t find out that they have the condition until they’re adults. Before, it was widely thought that children grew out of ADHD, but we now know that the majority don’t.

What does ADHD feel like?

ADHD affects people in different ways. Some may have frequently racing thoughts, or be unable to process words being spoken to them by someone else. Others may feel an urge to act or speak before taking in the wider context of their surroundings, be unable to relax or have severe bouts of worry.

FAQ

How much does it cost?

How much does it cost?

It’s £249 for a consultation with our ADHD clinician.

This fee covers:

  • your assessment
  • your diagnosis
  • your personalised report, downloadable online
  • treatment recommendations from a qualified clinician

If you take our pre-assessment and our clinician doesn’t think a consultation will be right for you, we’ll refund this fee.

Ongoing prescriptions are £189 per month.

This also covers access to our clinical team, aftercare support and follow-up review appointments with our ADHD clinician.

How does it work?

How does it work?

It all starts with the pre-assessment. It’s a 5-minute series of questions you can answer online, and helps us to know if a further consultation with our ADHD clinician is going to be worth your time (and £249 fee).

If it looks like a video assessment is right for you, we'll ask you to provide contact details for someone who knows you well, so we can email them a short online survey to complete. This can be a parent, or someone else who's known you since birth, and knows information about your developmental history and your mother's pregnancy with you (such as an extended family member or family friend). The survey should only take 5 minutes.

Once your chosen person has completed this, you’ll be invited to book an appointment. You can choose your own time from those available.

At your video assessment, our ADHD clinician will talk about your feelings and symptoms with you, ask you some questions, and discuss your medical history. The video assessment lasts for around 90 minutes, but can go on for longer. Towards the end of your video assessment, you’ll usually get an indication of your diagnosis, and a formal diagnosis after the appointment has finished.

What happens after the assessment?

What happens after the assessment?

Afterwards, our clinician will put together a report based on your discussion, and you’ll be able to download this within 7-10 days.

If the clinician thinks therapy or treatment might help you, they’ll make personalised recommendations based on your diagnosis and medical profile.

If you accept their recommendation, our clinician can then issue a prescription for you.

Can I change my appointment?

Can I change my appointment?

Yes, you can change your appointment with us and reschedule it for another time. If you do need to reschedule, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible.

Who are your doctors?

Where are you based?

Where are you based?

Focused is based in the UK, and is registered with the Care Quality Commission.
Our address is:
Unit 18, Britannia Way, Waters Meeting, Bolton, BL2 2HH.

Do you tell my GP?

Do you tell my GP?

Yes, we will inform your GP of the outcome of your assessment. This keeps them up-to-date and means that you’ll get better continuity of care. During the pre-assessment questionnaire, we’ll ask you to provide your GP details so that we can contact them following your assessment.

Do you need to access my health record?

Do you need to access my health record?

Yes, and we’ll ask for your consent to access your NHS digital health record during your pre-assessment. This helps the clinician to make sure that an online ADHD assessment is suitable for you, and to confirm whether you have any other pre-existing health concerns that they need to take into account.

If you live in England and use NHS services, you’ll usually have a Summary Care Record which our clinician can access digitally with your consent. If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, or don’t have a Summary Care or NHS record for another reason, you’ll usually have to request a health record from your GP or primary physician and upload this for our clinician to review.
